HARRY CHAPIN: SINGER, SONGWRITER, SOCIAL ACTIVIST AND EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMER Harry Chapin was a truly magical performer who could engage an audience in a truly unique way. He called it his living room effect . No matter the size of the audience Harry made us feel like we were in his living room. He addressed us personally and stayed long after the shows signing autographs. While he was on stage he connected with the audience and put out enormous positive energy. All of that comes through in this wonderful package from several concerts he did at the Bottom Line in New York City in 1980. I was there, and hearing him again brings back delightful memories for my wife Jeannine and me. If you have not listened to a Chapin live performance for a while you are in for a treat. Harry was larger than life and his buoyant engaging personality comes through in a way that most of his studio recordings do not quite. If you miss Harry s live performances as I do, this is as close as you will get to this truly unique live performer. Harry Chapin was also my friend and partner in founding WhyHunger, Long Island Cares (now called the Harry Chapin Food Bank), the New York City Hunger Hotline and the Center for Food Action in New Jersey. There has never been an artist who gave so much of his time, talent, money and spirit to fighting hunger and poverty. If you would like to learn more about us visit whyhunger to see where Harry Chapin s social advocacy legacy has grown and how you can become involved. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy the living musical legacy of our friend and partner, Harry Chapin. Peace, Bill Ayres For this expanded re-mastered edition, we ve given you the original set, as released in 1998, PLUS an additional, previously unreleased 88-minute show. To demarcate the second show, we ve started with the club s pre-show room ambience exactly what you would have heard sitting in the audience, moments before the band took the stage. It s another riveting performance and as always, the band gives their impeccable all. Harry s voice may show some wear n tear by the time they come around to Circle , but it only adds to this vivid snapshot of an incredible artist who, having given his all, shows that there s still something there left to give.
