Music fans first became aware of Jason Isbell when he joined the Drive-By Truckers in 2003, and after recording three albums with the group, he launched his solo career with the 2007 album Sirens of the Ditch. But it was 2013's Southeastern that finally broke Isbell through to a larger audience who discovered his intelligent, heartfelt, and carefully drawn portraits of life in the American south. After extensive touring, Isbell returned to the recording studio in 2014 with Dave Cobb (the producer who worked with Isbell on Southeastern), and 2015's Something More Than Free presents 11 new songs in a set Isbell has described as his "most sonically diverse album to date."
