Kim Taylor is a Cincinnati-based singer-songwriter who first came on the scene with a remarkable debut album "So Black, So Bright" in 2002, and she hasn't looked back since. The last year has been especially busy, with Kim branching out into indie-movie starring roles (her debut film "I Used To Be Darker" was just released in the theatres), while writing and recording this, her fourth full-length studio album, the follow-up to 2010's "Little Miracle" album.
"Love's A Dog" (11tracks; 44 min.) starts off with an engaging "Open", with a full band backing Kim. "Like A Woman Can" charges even harder, with underlying steel or slide guitar. "Bleeding Heart" is an achingly beautiful, slow, and pensive love ballad, like only Kim can bring them. Then Kim does it even better on "You Are So Beautiful". The title track is a piano-driven tune. The second half of the album crashes in with "Time And Again", with a biting rythm guitar. "We Are Washed" is the most Over the Rhine-like song on the album (Kim has opened for, and played with, OtR on countless occasions). Deep into the album, we get a couple more gems, including an Aimee Mann-reminding "American Dream" and the album closer which is called "Trainwreck" and is as emotional as its title implies.
