NOEL GALLAGHER'S HIGH FLYING BIRDS marks Gallagher's first solo album project since the 2009 split of multi-platinum band Oasis. As songwriter, guitarist and producer of Oasis since the band's inception in 1993, Noel Gallagher was at the helm for their global success, from the launch of their first indie UK singles in 1994 to their final shows together in the summer of 2009. Over the course of their seven consecutive #1 studio albums, Oasis sold over 70 million records worldwide and charted 22 consecutive Top 10 UK hits from 1995 to 2008 (including eight #1's), creating an astounding historical record. When Oasis split up in August 2009, the Gallagher brothers bounced back by both forming their own side-projects. Liam Gallagher launched Beady Eye that same year, retaining most of Oasis† lineup and cranking up his love for †60s rock & roll. Meanwhile, Noel reached out to musicians from different bands to piece together the High Flying Birds, whose music struck a balance between Oasis† epic pop/rock and the Kinks† lush psychedelia. Released in October 2011, the album also proved Noel†s willingness to step out of his comfort zone with songs like †The Death of You and Me,† which featured a marching band†s horn section.
