The Ruts could and should have been contenders. Their debut album, The Crack, was one of the truly great Punk albums to emerge from the original wave of UK bands. With great singles like 'Babylon's Burning' and 'In A Rut', they were tapped to be the next big thing. Unfortunately, they had a doomed lead vocalist, Malcolm Owen, seriously hooked on heroin and he wouldn't live to see the completion of a second album.
