This is Sherman Holmes first solo recording in his 50+year career on M.C. Records. The Richmond Sessions by The Sherman Holmes Project carries on the spirit of the Holmes Brothers by reimagining songs and making them their own. The record maintains a bluegrass/gospel vibe throughout that surprises and delights. The Richmond Sessions recorded in his home state of Virginia includes covers by The Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dan Penn and Ben Harper. The recording is produced by Jon Lohman, Virginia State Folklorist and Director of the Virginia Folklife Program at the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Some of the musicians on the release include: Rob Ickes, multi-time IBMA dobro player of the year, and holder of two nominations. Special guest vocal by Joan Osborne The Ingramettes, Richmond Virginia's First Family of Gospel, for the past 50 years. Sherman Holmes will be on the road supporting the The Richmond Sessions ready to share his music with the world as he had done in the past with The Holmes Brothers. The year 2015 brought loss and change to the acclaimed soul/blues/gospel band The Holmes Brothers. Holmes Brothers drummer/vocalist Willie 'Popsy' Dixon and Wendell Holmes, vocalist, guitarist, pianist and songwriter, passed away in 2015. Older brother, Sherman Holmes, vocalist, bassist, pianist, and songwriter with The Holmes Brothers, continues to celebrate and explore The Holmes Brothers legacy, leading a new band: The Sherman Holmes Project. Sherman Holmes is renowned for his deeply soulful baritone voice and his unique, blues to jazz to funk, bass style, and he has been called an American Treasure. As a member of The Holmes Brothers, The Sherman Holmes Project will honor The Holmes Brothers repertoire with a blend of renewed energy, wisdom and youthful respect for timeless traditions.
