The widely respected actor and activist Theodore Bikel (1924–2015) was always a folksinger first and foremost, one who could sing in four different languages. This affectionate tribute to the entertainer features a disc of Bikel recounting stories from his long and colorful life, while on the second disc he sings such numbers as "Pourquoi Je Chante," "Oh Freedom," "Un Az Der Rebbi Tanz" ("And Then the Rabbi Danced"), and "Edelweiss," which the Austrian-born singer performed when he originated the role of Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music. From his 90th birthday celebration, Bikel is also heard here on a poignant version of "When I'm Gone."
