Young Florida hardcore traditionalists Thick as Blood adhere to the ultra-muscular formula of metallic hardcore that flourished in the mid-1990s with bands like Earth Crisis and Integrity. Their sophomore album, EMBRACE, may sound cuddly, but it's about as approachable as a brass knuckle-draped fist. Songs like "Raising Hell" are uniformly steamrolling, with chunky mosh breakdown guitars and rhythms designed for moving crowds in churning circle pits. There's little fat on the album, as that would leave no room for the outsized muscle. Those looking for experimentation should look elsewhere, but this is one hearty serving of meat and potatoes.
