There was a time when bluegrass was a sub-genre of country music. Country and bluegrass stars appeared together in package shows throughout the country. By the 1950s, though, the genres began to splinter, each coming into its own by developing a unique sound and distinct fan base. Throughout bluegrass musics relatively short history, artists such as Ricky Skaggs, Allison Krauss, and Merle Haggard have straddled the line between country and bluegrass, managing to find success in both worlds. This new collection is a testament to the influence one genre has over the other as celebrated bluegrass musicians pay tribute to some of countrys biggest names by performing the songs that made them famous.
