Journeys By DJ, the brand of DJ mix albums credited as the first to release live recordings of DJs on CD, is set to release a new album in July 2001. Started in London in 1992, Journeys by DJ enjoyed many defining moments, with over 20 albums released internationally, notably in the UK, USA and Japan. The return of Journeys by DJ brings an exciting promise of more high-class sonic escapism. Most clubbers remember Journeys by DJ for such classics as Paul Oakenfold’s 1994 excursion and the seminal Coldcut album, a wild Hip Hop cut-up journey that helped redefine the genre. After “70 Minutes of Madness” in 1995, Journeys by DJ released “After Hours”, one of the first laid-back DJ mixes for the post-club vibe, followed up by Gilles Peterson and Norman Jay’s 1997 “Desert Island Mix”, setting another benchmark for eclecticism. Other high points include DJ Rap’s early downtempo Drum’n’Bass album and Keoki’s legendary “Superstar Journeys by DJ”, the first of its kind in the USA.
