Various Artists - Slow Jams: The Definitive Collection [Audio CD] 2008

Is this, as its title suggests, the definitive slow jam compilation? No. It's not even close, skipping from decade to decade and featuring too many marginal and moderate hits to qualify as anything more than a random assortment of decent-to-great slow jams. The track list looks more like a shuffle button hit on a collection of tracks tagged as "R&B" and "slow." Going from Al Green's "I'm Still in Love with You" to Boyz II Men's "On Bended Knee" to Musiq Soulchild's "Love" to Teddy Pendergrass' "Close the Door" is too jarring to make for a smooth listen, and that's only the opening sequence. Even if the tracks had been sequenced chronologically, the disc would still be recommendable only to those who happen to need a significant chunk of the inclusions.
