To accompany a shoot-'em-up fest like the 2008 film Punisher: War Zone, you need a high-volume soundtrack, right? This is indeed a correct assumption, as this 14-track soundtrack is chock-full of modern-day metal. And as with most soundtracks of recent times, you get a hodgepodge of the memorable and the forgettable. Kicking things off is the Rob Zombie track "War Zone," which sounds like a tune that the hairy shock-rocker probably penned in his sleep. But up next, Slayer get things back on track with "Final Six," a track that starts off as one of the band's most melodic yet, before transforming into the extreme metal that listeners have come to know and love over the years from these jolly chaps. Elsewhere, it's a mix of big riffs and growled vocals (Rise Against, Hatebreed) and more easy-to-digest mainstream sounds (Seether, Senses Fail). Overall, Punisher: War Zone is your average/ordinary modern-day rock motion picture soundtrack -- nothing more, nothing less.
