Capitol's 10 Best series isn't ideally suited to a band like the Beach Boys, who have more than enough A-list songs to fill up a double-disc set. What are the ten best Beach Boys' songs, anyway? Well, no one could quibble about "Fun, Fun, Fun," "California Girls," "Good Vibrations," or "Wouldn't It Be Nice," all of which are found here. A case could also be made for "Help Me, Rhonda" and "Barbara Ann," too, but is "Be True to Your School" really one of the ten best Beach Boys' songs? A fun set, as far as it goes, but ten two-minute songs don't take you very far into the surf, and there are Beach Boys' collections out there that will get you a lot further, maybe even all the way to Hawaii.
