Toy Gun Cowboy - Big Blue [CD] 2008

Toy Gun Cowboy is none other than Mr. Matthew Erickson, a musician based in Lakewood, CA, who opts to do things his way. And what exactly is "his way," do you wonder? It's a one-man band deal, as most of Toy Gun Cowboy's music is recorded in his garage/recording studio, dubbed the G-Hatch. As evidenced by his 2008 full-length, Big Blue, if you picture a less quirky sounding Beck, the Eels, or the Flaming Lips, you won't be too far off from the style that Toy Gun Cowboy specializes in. As evidenced by such tracks as "Big Blue No. 2" and "Everyday Activities," you'll find plenty of pleasant alt pop sounds here. And that's what the problem is -- while consistently pleasing to the ear, there's really nothing about it that differentiates it from all the other Beck disciples out there.
